The Manta Pacific Research Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the research, education, and conservation of manta rays and the marine environment. By studying manta rays in their natural habitats, the foundation conducts critical scientific research to better understand their anatomy, behavior, life cycle, and ecological role. These insights drive efforts to raise awareness and foster protection for manta rays both in Hawaii and globally. With research projects spanning decades, the foundation continuously expands its knowledge base, contributing to the preservation of this vulnerable species.
Education is at the heart of the Manta Pacific Research Foundation’s mission. Through the creation of educational media, community presentations, and participation in academic conferences, the organization seeks to inspire public understanding and appreciation of manta rays. Alongside its educational outreach, the foundation actively works to protect manta rays through advocacy, including supporting legislation, establishing tour guidelines, and influencing global conservation standards. These efforts have contributed to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) listing manta rays as a vulnerable species and securing protections for them in state waters.
